Known for her invaluable contribution to Hindustani classical music, Sanchaita Ghoshal is blessed with a soulful voice and is one of the most prolific music maestros of the 21st century.
Today, Sanchaita Ghoshal is known for her versatility, voice brilliance, mature presentation and improvisation, which reflects a deep understanding of the subtle nuances of Hindustani Classical music.
Sanchaita Ghoshal was born in Barrackpore, Kolkata. She has a strong defense family background, with father being a senior defense officer (medical doctor) serving the Indian Army. Her earliest musical influences were her parents, who would be playing and practicing Sitar as well as Tabla in the evenings. Witnessing a hobby pursued passionately by her parents, she started developing deep interest in classical music. While, the other major influences were the masters of classical music whose concerts she would attend and get immensely inspired.
Since the age of 3, Sanchaita Ghoshal started grasping the essence of Indian musical art with love and dedication. She went on to learn rudiments of Hindustani Classical Music by renowned masters at the different army stations where her father would be posted on duty.At the age of 7, Sanchaita’s father made an official visit to Dehradun. Luck stroked when he met Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb, who agreed and accepted Sanchaita under his wings. Later, her father gave up his ancestral home in Kolkata and built a house close to Khan Saheb’s house. This showed how her father has been a strong motivator and constant support in building a promising career in the Indian Musical Industry.
First Live Performance
Known as one of the amazing child music prodigy, Sanchaita Ghoshal’s first performance was at the tender age of 6. Sanchaita gave her first ever performance, under the aegis of ‘Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Cultures and Languages’
Since then, she had performed at many prestigious venues and also won accolades at various music competitions across India. This includes Jammu & Kashmir Classical Music Competiton, All Bundel Khand Music Competition, Dehradun Inter School Music Competition, Garhwal Regional Music Competition and Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Music Competition.
Role in Promoting Hindustani Classical Music & Artists
Although there are many musical communities contributing and planting efforts in promoting Hindustani Classical Music and Dance, India still has a huge number of upcoming and talented artists to be highlighted.
With a vision to spread awareness of Hindustani Classical Music and endowing fame to talented artists, Sanchaita Ghoshal along with other renowned artists Pandit Brij Narayan and Ustad Likayat Ali Khan have thus established an online platform “Raagreet”. This platform is initiated for Grandmasters, Masters, Young Masters, Senior Artists and Artists of the musical arts to mesmerize a global audience with the rarest of the Raags which they seldom get an opportunity to perform.
